The beautiful Jávea itself!

The beautiful Jávea itself!

Jávea, the place known for its azure, idyllic bays, rugged cliffs and small islands off the coast. One of the most beautiful places to celebrate your vacations, even if I say so myself. Jávea not only has a very clean air, due to its location between the Montgo and other mountains / rocks, you can enjoy a wonderful warmth throughout the year. It doesn't get any better than this, does it?

Jávea, written in Catalan as Xàbia, is a town on the Costa Blanca and lies midway between Alicante and Valencia. Other well-known places in the area are Moraira, Denia, Benissa, Calpe, Altea and Benidorm. Jávea is easily accessible by plane, from both airports (Alicante & Valencia) it takes a little over an hour by car to reach this beautiful place! The town consists of three parts; La Villa (this is the old town), the sandy plain and the port.

LA VILLA

La Villa, better known as the inner city of Jávea, is a beautiful place with good restaurants, cozy cafes, a wonderful museum and the local (food) market where you can find a piece of the history of the city everywhere.  Various remnants of piracy around the time of the 14th century can be found everywhere. For example, at the fort you can admire the remaining cannonballs. And if you want to delve even deeper into this history? You can! The city center has the Archaeological and Ethnographic Museum 'Soler Blasco'. Be sure to visit it! If you are not so interested in this history and you prefer a nice sangria with some tapas, then you can also go downtown. Always keep in mind the siesta from 14:00 to 17:00, the Spaniards love an afternoon nap! Finally, every week there is a very nice market at Plaza de la Constitución. Enjoy the local atmosphere and who knows, you might score a nice outfit or some fresh vegetables. All in all, there is plenty to do in the beautiful historic city center; LA Villa.

THE PORT

The port of Jávea is known for its delicious fish auction. But... before the port of Jávea became a fishing port, the port had a purpose and raisins were shipped from Jávea. In fact, small remnants of the port from the 15th century can still be seen, but you have to look very carefully! In the 19th century the shipping of raisins no longer proved to be a good business model, so the port expanded at tremendous speed into a beautiful fishing port. Every day around 17:00 hours the fishing boats arrive with fresh fish and you can buy delicious fresh fish at the fish market. This should really be done once when you're in Jávea.

THE BEACHES

As you have already read, Jávea has beautiful azure, idyllic bays, rugged cliffs and small islands off the coast. Except for one beach, all beaches in Jávea are pebble beaches. The only sandy beach is Playa del Arenal. A Mediterranean beach with 480 meters of coarse sand and shallow water where you can make a delicious swim. As the name of the beach already tells you, the beach is located on the Arenal boulevard. So you do not have to worry if you forgot something, you have here namely endless nice restaurants, cafes and stores.

Besides the tourist Arenal you have many other beautiful beaches. These beaches are often located in a bay where you have beautiful views from the mountains around it. Another advantage of these surrounding mountains, is that you are nice and sheltered from the wind. Two of the most beautiful beaches around Jávea are Playa Grandalla and Cala del Portixol. These two beaches are highly recommended for a beautiful view and a dive in the clear blue water!
